New dental care allowance on 1 July — use it before it expires
You can receive the general dental care allowance (ATB) from the year you turn 20 if you are insured in Sweden. A new allowance is allocated on 1 July each year. It can be used for care that qualifies for the state dental care subsidy at a participating dentist or dental hygienist.
What many people miss: allowances can only be saved for a maximum of two years. If you have not visited a dental care provider for a while, you may therefore have two allowances waiting — and the oldest will expire when next year's allowance becomes available.
Unsure what applies to you? We can see your available allowances when you visit us, and our advice article Dental care allowances and high-cost protection – how they work in 2026 explains the whole system — including the special dental care allowance and high-cost protection.
Book a check-up and ask us which allowances you can use.
