Bleeding gums – advice for gentle cleaning
2026-09-28
Bleeding gums can have different causes. One common cause is irritation and inflammation around bacterial plaque at the gumline. Brushing too hard can also irritate the gums.
Clean thoroughly and gently
- Brush morning and evening with a soft toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste.
- Use small, gentle movements and clean close to the gumline too.
- Clean between your teeth every day with dental floss or interdental brushes that fit the spaces between your teeth.
Continue cleaning gently even if you see a little blood. Brushing harder does not help. Ask a dental professional to show you how to reach these areas without irritating your gums.
